GOVERNANCE AT MANOR PARK

Our Governing Body

Working together to ensure every child belongs, succeeds and has the opportunity to thrive.

How our Governing Body works

The Governing Body works in close partnership with the Headteacher and school leaders to provide strategic direction, support and challenge. Governors play an important role in ensuring that Manor Park continues to provide the best possible education and opportunities for all children, whilst holding school leaders to account for the school's performance and the effective use of resources.

From September 2025, Manor Park moved to a full governing board meeting structure, with meetings held every half term rather than through separate standing committees. This enables all governors to contribute to discussions and decisions across the full range of the school's strategic responsibilities.

Meetings alternate between two key areas of focus:

  • Teaching and Learning: Governors consider the quality of education, curriculum, pupil achievement, inclusion, attendance and the school's improvement priorities.

  • Resource Management: Governors oversee the school's financial management, staffing, premises, health and safety, and the effective use of resources to support the school's priorities.

Although each meeting has a particular focus, the Governing Body retains collective responsibility for the strategic leadership and oversight of the school.

Link Governors

Alongside full governing board meetings, we appoint Link Governors for key statutory responsibilities and areas identified as priorities within our School Improvement Plan. These governors work closely with relevant school leaders, undertake monitoring activities and provide support and challenge, reporting their findings to the full Governing Body.

Our designated Link Governors include Danny Doran-Smith for Safeguarding and Steve Cooke and Rachel Gallon for Inclusion and SEND. Other governors take responsibility for monitoring specific school improvement priorities, ensuring that the Governing Body maintains a clear understanding of the school's work and the impact of its improvement strategies.
